The North Georgia Wine Trail
The wineries of the North Georgia mountains are gaining national recognition with several award-winning wines – establishing the area as a prominent wine region.
The Overlook Inn makes an excellent base camp while setting out on a North Georgia wine tour.
Georgia Apple Houses
There are more than 10 different apples houses located in nearby Ellijay and Blue Ridge, Georgia – great for a day of exploring and eating.
Many of these orchards feature U-Pick and specialty foods and crafts. Be sure to visit during the month of October which features the Georgia Apple Festival.
Whitewater Rafting
This is a favorite adventure activity for visitors – one of the most exciting excursions in the region.
The Upper and Middle Ocoee River is damn controlled and churns up class III and IV rapids continually – perfect for beginners and the more experienced.
Note: State law sets the minimum age for rafters at 12 years old.
Fishing Sites & Charters
North Georgia is a fisherman’s delight. This unspoiled wilderness boasts incredible lakes, winding rivers, and tumbling streams brimming with bass and trout. Many of these waterways are seeded, with the fish populations carefully maintained.
There are also a couple of incredible fly fishing guide companies that we recommend. They’ll ensure you find the best waterways and secret spots.
Area Golf Courses
The North Georgia area is home to 3 public golf courses within reach of the Overlook Inn. Each is a par-72 course offering 18 holes, driving range, putting green, and snack bar.
Horseback Riding
The mountains and forests of North Georgia offer a beautiful setting for horseback riding, and a few regional operations offer trail rides for all experience levels – from novice to expert.
